Jim Risk, who is currently CFO and Partner for Statistical Energy LLC, has over 20 years of experience in the energy business, having been involved with electric and gas deregulation since 1997 when the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania first deregulated (electric deregulation). In 1997, Mr. Risk allocated part of his time to support the initial sales team for Penn Power Solutions, which eventually became part of FirstEnergy Solutions. Mr. Risk, who also spent a year (1997) working as a Major Account Representative for Ohio Edison, was the first sales employee ever employed by FirstEnergy Solutions (“FES”), where he sold electric and gas supply agreements to commercial and industrial clients in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. In 1998, Mr. Risk, shortly after FES purchased some natural gas assets, was the lead negotiator for FES’ first ever commercial and industrial natural gas sales agreement with The B.F. Goodrich Company. Mr. Risk was also a founding employee and primary business development executive for The E Group, which was the energy consulting and brokerage company previously owned by FES (The E Group assets are now owned by Schneider Electric S. E.). While employed by The E Group, Mr. Risk was responsible for identifying and negotiating agreements which accounted for almost half (47%) of The E Group’s $10 Million in annual revenues. Some of the clients Mr. Risk sourced for The E Group included CSX, Norfolk Southern, RMR (R.E.I.T.), Sherwin-Williams, US Bank, Rent-A-Center, Travel Centers and many others. In 2007, knowing that The E Group was up for sale by FES (The E Group was sold by FES in 2009), Mr. Risk went to work for an international brokerage and risk management firm, with 25,000 employees and offices in 35 countries, to learn more about the brokerage business model.
In January of 2016, Mr. Risk founded Statistical Energy LLC and it has quickly turned into one of the America’s fastest growing energy brokerage and consulting firms. In order to help proactively address the tremendous growth which Statistical Energy LLC experienced in the first two years of existence, Mr. Risk signed an agreement on 1-25-18 with Ronald Cantlie (President) and Michael Jackson (CEO) to allow these two energy veterans to purchase ownership shares of Statistical Energy LLC. As a result of this new ownership structure and corresponding/additional resources and energy expertise, Statistical Energy LLC has positioned itself well for continued growth and evolvement in the years to come.
Mr. Risk has an MBA from The Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western University (1995) and a Bachelors of Science (1988) in Business (Marketing) from Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana. Mr. Risk volunteers his time leading the Cancer Support Group at Parkside Church (ParksideChurch.Com) and is also a Corporation Board Member (Human Resources Committee) for The Village Network in Wooster, Ohio.
